What is Architecture? (Beautiful Architecture - Chapter 1)

I begin to wonder how much work the authors, Spinellis & Gousios, actually had to do since the book is a compilation of papers written by other authors. I have no personal experience in this philosophy of having subject matter experts do the work and allow me to take the credit for their work.

The approach in which the contributors took in personalizing the architect as female was surprising (even if the contributors were both male). Personally, I urge more women to take the helm in leading projects and starting companies. It had been so common or stereotypical to use 'he' or 'he/she' when referencing a person or role, this could be a new approach that we will see more often.

It is much appreciated how the authors of this chapter stated there is no single correct architecture and no single "right answer." Evaluation of architectures or initial trial and error will allow architects, designers, and developers to determine if a certain approach will satisfy the needs of the customer. If you try and fail, at least you tried. Get up and try again.

The text of this first chapter was pretty dry and not the easiest to follow. Maybe I have been spoiled by other technical books such as "Peopleware" and "Extreme Software Engineering". It really is possible to make a topic enjoyable with a little sarcasm and humor. Unfortunately, I had to keep myself motivated to get through this first chapter.
